Margaret Mason, KC, is a retired partner with Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP with close to four decades of experience advising donors, charities and other tax-exempt organizations and their boards. She seeks to share that expertise, which comes with a deep understanding of the operational needs of charities and non-profits, in discussions that she hopes will result in a more inclusive, nimble and collaborative sector. Her policy-related work focuses on ensuring that charities and non-profits have the best, most flexible environment within which to operate and believes that The Philanthropist Journal plays a critical role in aiding and inspiring organizations as they navigate and transform through difficult times. Mason has served on the boards of many organizations, including the BC Law Institute, and is past-Chair of Imagine Canada and the Canadian Sport Institute – Pacific. She is a past member of the CRA Charities Directorate’s Technical Issues Working Group. She currently chairs the 2010 Games Operating Trust, is a director of the Aqueduct Foundation, the David Spencer Endowment Encouragement Fund and the Saint Mary’s Health Foundation, and continues to serve as an executive member of the National Charities Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
