Connie Walker

Connie Walker is president and CEO of United Way Winnipeg, first joining the organization as vice-president of community investment in 2008; she moved into her current position in 2014. Walker’s previous experience includes working as manager of strategic initiatives for the City of Winnipeg, where she oversaw the operations of almost 20 municipal departments. Walker has worked across multiple sectors during periods of systemic change, including engaging with the private sector to work with companies invested in social good, and knows how difficult and necessary that work can be. In her first career she was a public health nurse, where she learned firsthand the challenges faced by people living in poverty and the profound impact it can have on both their mental and physical health. She believes The Philanthropist can serve as a resource where organizations can share information, inspire the next generation of philanthropists, and direct public-policy decisions. Looking forward, Walker hopes that Canada can cast off the old charitable model and become a truly robust civil society – one that could be the envy of the world.
